Delete your account
Last updated 27 September 2026
A Couples Jar account only exists inside a jar. There is no separate profile anywhere else, so deleting the jar deletes both accounts and everything in it. It takes under a minute and you do it yourself, in the app.
In the app
- Open Couples Jar and sign in.
- Tap the settings icon at the top of the screen.
- Tap Delete this jar. If your partner paid for the jar you'll see Leave the jar instead, which takes you and your slips out and leaves their jar standing.
- Type your password and confirm. We ask for the password rather than a yes or no box, because this cannot be undone.
- Both of you get an email saying the jar is gone.
On a paid jar only the person who paid can delete it, so that nobody can destroy what the other one bought. The other person can always leave. On a free jar, or once a subscription has lapsed, either of you can delete it.
If you can't get into the app
Email support@couplesjar.app from the address on the account and ask us to delete your jar. We check that the address matches and then do it. No form, no phone call, no reason needed. We answer within a month and usually the same week.
Take a copy first, if you want one
Settings, then Download a copy of your jar, gives you a file with every slip, note and date in it. Once the jar is deleted we cannot get any of it back, for you or for us.
Removing one thing, not everything
You don't have to end the jar to take something out of it. Open any wish or reward and tap Take this one out of the jar. It goes for both of you, straight away, and the rest of the jar carries on.
For anything the app can't remove for you, email support@couplesjar.app from the address on the account and say what you want deleted. Same check that the address matches, same answer inside a month.
What goes straight away
- Both accounts: the names you typed, your email addresses and your password hashes.
- Everything in the jar: every wish, every reward, every slip, every keepsake note and every sealed note.
- Points, the activity log, and the dates the two of you set.
- Every device either of you was signed in on.
What is kept for a short while, and why
- Server logs. Our web server records each request (time, address requested, IP address and browser). They rotate automatically, are kept for security and fault-finding, and are never used to profile anyone.
- Database copies taken before app updates, on the same server. Only the most recent 14 are ever kept and the oldest delete themselves automatically, so an old copy of a deleted jar ages out on its own.
- Anything Google or Apple holds about a purchase. If you bought through a store, the receipt is theirs and we can't delete it. Cancelling a subscription is done in that store, not here, and it's worth doing before you delete the jar.
Anything else
You can also ask to see, correct or export your data. Email support@couplesjar.app. Our full privacy notice says what we keep and why.
